• The History of Keno

    Keno was first played in two hundred BC by the Chinese army leader, Cheung Leung who utilized keno as a monetary resource for his failing army. The city of Cheung was waging a battle, and after awhile of war time appeared to be looking at a country wide shortage of food with the dramatic drop in supplies. Cheung Leung had to come up with a quick response for the financial calamity and to create revenue for his forces. He thusly invented the game we know today as keno and it was a wonderful success.

    Keno used to be well-known as the White Pigeon Game, seeing as the winning numbers were broadcast by pigeons from larger municipalities to the lesser towns. The lottery ‘Keno’ was brought to America in the 1800s by Chinese expatriates who came to the US for work. In those times, Keno was played with 120 numbers.

    Today, Keno is most often played with 80 numbers in almost all of American land based casinos as well as internet casinos. Keno is largely enjoyed today as a result of the laid back nature of playing the game and the simple reality that there are little expertise needed to play Keno.
