It may not generally be looked at as the most lucrative game in the world of gaming, but keno has millions of passionate enthusiasts. As well it should! It’s a regularly entertaining lottery-like game that’s simple to master, abundantly available in loads of alternate formats, and one that might pay out mega-dollars for players who master its many subtle nuances. But let’s start with the basic facts here.

When explaining keno to newbies, some betting connoisseurs compare it to lotto. This is at least in some measure apt, in that both games are basically numerical. But to take that comparison too far can be to underestimate the great many unique traits that make keno so exciting. Not like bingo, keno gamblers have the freedom to pick the numbers for each and every card.

Keno cards have a total of 80 numbers, but the user is given an increased degree of personal responsibility by being able to pick as many (or as few) numbers as he or she needs. And it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to come up with how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark each of your handpicked numbers with a ordinarymarker like you used when you were in grade 3.

Now that you’ve selected your numbers, carry the keno card back to the girl at the keno booth. The person will record your numbers and then hand you a receipt. Do not lose this (potentially) expensive bit of paper! Even if the keno pit manager remembers your pretty face and wants help out, without a winning slip in hand, you will get exactly $.00 for your actions.

OK, so there you have strategy #1: always be sure to keep your keno receipt. Let’s go on to something a little more complicated, yes?

Now that you’ve marked your numbers, settle into a nice keno booth and watch the action unfold on a big video monitor. That’s where the winning numbers are displayed in lights. If you picked winners, mark your card accordingly. Sake care not to drag your feet, or sit there praising yourself for an obnoxious length of time. You want to get back to the keno booth to collect your winnings, and then a new round of keno will likely begin within five minutes.

Strategy number 2: always get back to the keno stand on time!

Assuming you don’t trust yourself to make that five-minute deadline each time, you always have the option of purchasing a "multi-race" card. These include the self same set of your handpicked numbers on anywhere from two to twenty slips. When the maximum number of rounds (matching the number of tickets) is played out, you will then be able to get off your numb rump and go redeem your winnings.

Yet another choice is known as a "stray and play" keno slip, which usually lets you make number choices for thirty rounds or more. Gosh, you can take vacation to Italy and not have to fret about getting back in time to get your numbers. Most "stray and play" slips are good for up to a whole year after it’s bought!

So now you are aware of a number of needed schemes for winning keno. If you are an accomplished user, they may appear to be stupidly obvious. But it will never hurt to bone up on the basics, and if you are a novice gambler, every tiny bit of advice will help make your keno experience more fun.
