Keno is a casino game of chance with a rich and illustrious history. The game that we are familiar with has experienced remarkable alterations since its initial appearance. Gaming chroniclers have followed its background as far back as 200 Before Christ to a Chinese style of diversion called ‘The Game of the White Dove.’ It is a well-documented certainty that a style of keno was played in a bingo-like configuration on the eastern seaboard right about the time of the huge Chinese immigration at the time of the gold rush.
In its existing form, keno is something like bingo in that the pair of games are based upon numbers. An individual keno card is printed with eighty numbers and the player can select as many as he or she wants. This is accomplished by circling or otherwise marking the numbers with a pen. Once the gambler has picked out the numbers, he must take the card back to the nice person at the keno stand. The clerk will then provide a slip after marking down the gambler’s numbers. It is the responsibility of the gambler to redeem any winning keno card before the upcoming round begins, so stragglers need to remain alert.
